Google announced the addition of masks and filters to Meet on Wednesday, noting that users could download the update on iOS and Android devices. While Google specifically calls out the mobile apps, according to Engadget, the new options are also available when starting a call through Gmail as well as through the app. Google To start adding filters and masks, all users need to do is press the sparkle button in the bottom right-hand corner of the video call. This will bring up the Effects options, which includes Styles and Filters. This is where you’ll find the filters and masks that Google has recently added to the app. Available options include a jellyfish filter that adds aquatic life around your face as well as masks that completely cover your face. You can also select to blur your background or add a background just as you can with other apps like Zoom. This is just the latest in the list of updates that Google has been pushing for Meet in an attempt to make it compete against Zoom and other higher-level video calling apps. There have been reports that Google plans to replace its other popular video app, Google Duo, with Meet. The addition of some of these new filters and masks, which Engadget notes are pulled directly from Duo, could be further proof that the move will happen eventually.
